Partnerships

Pooling skills and expertise

When we pool skills and expertise with other organisations, we can achieve outcomes that would be impossible to achieve alone. We may not always possess all the appropriate skills or the mandate to manage the matters in hand - such as poverty elimination or climate change. So by working in partnership with the community, environmental bodies, non government organisations and governments, we can put ourselves in a position to identify and tackle issues of mutual interest more effectively.

Rio Tinto's partnership programme

The partnership programme places strong emphasis on forming active relationships. We not only provide funds but, just as importantly, contribute technical and business management skills and participate in the planning and implementation of each project.

We choose community partnerships that are integral to our business and that are undertaken by organisations with which we share some common aims and objectives. The governing factor is that the partnership fits our business focus.
